Happy first day of December! Today is the first day I am sharing winter holiday photos for the 2025 Holiday Season.
This photo was taken last year in New York City, and I have been looking forward to sharing it for the past year. I decided to share it today because the photo has a lot of red. Red is the official color for World AIDS day which is honored annually on December 1st.
The purpose of World AIDS Day is to honor those who live with HIV and AIDS, remember those we have lost due to HIV related illnesses, and educate others about HIV and AIDS.
In order to prevent and eradicate AIDS, both education and action are necessary. To learn more about HIV and AIDS, World AIDS Day, or how to help those living with HIV and/or AIDS, here are a few organizations whose website have additional information:
❤️ The United Nations
❤️ World AIDS Day
❤️ World Health Organization
❤️ Elton John AIDS Foundation
❤️ Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
❤️ The Global Fund

HIV is a virus that can cause AIDS. AIDS stands for "acquired immune deficiency syndrome." AIDS weakens one's immune system until an individual is unable to fight off contracted illnesses, viruses, and diseases.
Anyone can become infected with HIV through the exchange of bodily fluids. This is why it is crucial for people to: learn about HIV, understand how to stop the spread of HIV, and have access to medical care that prevents, treats, and screens for HIV.
The United Nations reported on their website that an estimated 40.8 million people lived with HIV in 2024, and about 630,000 people died from HIV-related causes. The website also reported that an estimated 1.3 million people were infected by the virus in 2024.
