Yes. This is for real.
If I am being completely honest, I have been contemplating deleting Facebook, Instagram, and Threads for a long time. Nothing specific happened that drove me to finally make this decision, other than a few realizations that I had while on a recent photoshoot:
1.) I barely post on Facebook and Instagram anymore.
2.) The algorithm no longer serves my needs.
3.) I do not want to contribute to Meta AI.
4.) I can still share my work on my website.
This abbreviated list makes it sound like it was a clear cut and easy decision, but it was quite the opposite. I agonized over this decision for weeks fearing that, by walking away, I would lose more than I'd gain. That fear hasn't necessarily faded to obscurity, but in due time it will.
I am not going to stop creating art; it's just going to be shared differently.
Goodbye, Meta. Thank you for helping me grow my photography.
